'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'I've Made It, I'm Having A Cup Of Tea With Law!'

Is it surprising that for a Scot who played his football mostly in the '60s, Denis Law is the ultimate role model? Not in the slightest I'd say - Fergie's reverence of United's legendary striker is quite understandable.

The United boss admitted, not for the first time, that he had been a great admirer of Law who was at the peak of his career around the same time as Fergie himself.

'Denis Law was my hero as a player. I idolised him. When I first met him I was so excited. It was at a game in Paris, he had played in the first half and we went for a cup of tea afterwards.

'I thought: 'This is it, I've made it, I'm having a cup of tea with Denis Law!' For me, he epitomised everything a Scotsman is about. He was daring and courageous, he had that bravado about him and he had style. He was a truly fantastic footballer.'

Indeed. It's a bit disappointing that other United players like Giggs, Ferdinand and Rooney chose Diego Maradona as their icon - a brilliant player but an absolute prick, if I may say so and NOT because of the 'Hand of God' goal.

Gary Neville, however, remained faithful to his own image as a true Red: he named Bryan Robson as his hero which I think needs no explanation.
