L'Equipe: Bordeaux's Obertan Set To Join United

According to several French media reports, Bordeaux's Gabriel Obertan will sign for Manchester United today. L'Equipe claims that an agreement between the clubs has been in place for several weeks now but the fee won't be announced.

The paper, which rarely prints rubbish, quotes Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud who said: 'It's actually a great opportunity. We would love to see Gabriel improving at such a club.'

A move for Obertan would certainly be a surprise: the young winger - also capable of playing a second striker or an attacking central midfielder - is believed to have a bright future ahead of him but he did not set the world on fire at Bordeaux last season and he was loaned out to Lorient for the second part of the campaign where he did well but wasn't outstanding.

So all in all it smells like David Bellion Mark II - but who knows, bigger Fergie gambles turned out to be huge successes. More to follow if there's any official confirmation or denial of the story.

Yes this story has been gaining speed now and it does look like we will obtain this player unless some last minute problems. To tell u the truth I myself haven't heard much about him but there were plenty of big clubs monitoring his progress and in chelsea's case they had been watching him from 2007 so there has to be something in him that can make him a possible star and at utd he will get the right people and the right platform to develop his potential.

He can play on the wings plus in the centre of the midfield area as well as a striker which is what fergie wants from most of his players,i.e.,flexibility and to go with that he has a good height which is important at set pieces.

Zae,I won't understand your negativity, this guy is just 20yrs of age and I don't really remember anyone setting the world on fire leave aside messi, even ronaldo was a pain for the first few years. As far as I'm concerned,if he has the raw material then we will surely shape him into th finished good.
abmtd
Just one last thing to add is that he was also given the MVP award in the Toulon International Youth Tournament 2009,which had teams such as :-Argentina,Netherlands,Portugal,Chile,Egypt,Qatar,UAE.

I've heard his name before but never seen him play. Just watched a couple of videos of him on youtube - I'm always of the opinion that if they can't make you look great with three minutes of highlights you're probably not that good. First thing I thought when I saw him was - Bellion! But Fergie would have had him scouted and will know what his potential truly is and what he'll bring to the team. THe only disappointing thing is that assuming we don't sell or loan out any of our wingers - we clearly won't be making any bids for Ashley Young which means we won't be able to put out 10 englishmen next season: ---------------------Foster----------------------- Neville---Brown---Ferdinand---Evra ------------Carrick-----Hargreaves-------- Welbeck---------Rooney--------Young -----------------------Owen--------------------- With Terry, Cole, Gerrard and maybe johnson this team would be a finely tuned machine by the time the world cup rolled around!

Bar velencia it seems as if your signing squad players to replace first teamers (ronaldo, tevez) sorry to say but right now i cant see you lot winning the pl or champions league.

your new #7????
Paulinho
So far, I'm still betting on Ljajic being handed the number 7 in january.

Only time will tell who gets the number 7 shirt but its good to start guessing right now.
