'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United Complete Valencia Transfer

Antonio Valencia is Manchester United's first summer signing: the winger has signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford after United agreed an undisclosed fee - thought to be around Ł16million - with Wigan Athletic.

"Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me,' he told the official website.

'I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here.

"Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can`t wait to get started."

Sir Alex Ferguson: "Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan. I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team."

So be it. Welcome to Manchester United, Antonio!

typical of you lot - spend, spend, spend!

This is great news! Our style of play will definitely change for next year and this is good imo
ForeverUnited
Seven goals in 89 games? I won't say anything...
Aamir
Again.... to all you knobheads, he's not a direct Ronaldo replacement! There is NO Ronaldo replacement out there! We lost a winger in Ronaldo and we're replacing him with another winger. Nothing more! Besides what was Ronaldo's scoring like at Sporting? He came to a great club and he became a top scorer. I'm not saying Valencia will be the next Ronaldo but there is no reason why he can't contribute his fair share of goals.

"Besides what was Ronaldo's scoring like at Sporting?" Better than Valencia's at Wigan, knobhead.
Aamir
Wigan is not a club where wingers or midfielders can deliever lots of goals.. Their main goalscorer had only 8 goals and the second - only 3.. Aamir, what about 35 mln pound Xabi Alonso who provided helluva goals(19 in 199 mathes in top-club, interesting)..
Leonax
But Xabi's job is not to score goals, it's to provide goals. It's like criticising Wayne Rooney for not saving any penalties last season! Valencia's job is to provide goals as well as chip in with a fair amount.
Aamir
Aamir, yes, Valencia isn't bought to provide lots of goals - his main task will be to deliver ball to Rooney, Berbatov and Benzema(i hope).. He is not ronaldo, he is only another talented winger(not World's best player)..
Leonax
he will give is natural width, anyone that cant see that he is a great singing then they are fools. and if anyone thinks we will try to replace ronaldo with a goalscoring winger is also a fool as that is impossible. with Valencia i think we can play a proper 4-4-2 now, we dont need to sacrifice rooney. ronaldo leaing will make us a better force as a team as we wont have gaps which ronaldo left when we didnt have the ball
Reddevils4ever89
but we do need to sign a striker now, benzema would be ideal. tall, strong, fast and can head the ball and has an INCREDIBLE potential
Reddevils4ever89
Leonax, I think Valencia is a good player. Overrated but good nonetheless. My initial comment was aimed at FU who seems to have some sort of superiority complex. By the way, when I wrote "Valencia's job is to provide goals as well as chip in with a fair amount.", I meant to write "Valencia's job is to create goals as well as chip in with a fair amount." :)
Aamir
All I can say after watching Antonio week in and week out is that you have got one hell of a player, 100% effort EVERY game and bags of pace, he might just step up to the mantle and his game could explode and the £16 million might be considered a bargain in a couple of years
worbo
Good player, but I don't really see the point of you lot buying him. Great potential but nothing better then Nani in my opinion.
Klutch
Aamir - Superiority complex? By telling you he's not Ronaldo's replacement? That makes me superior then I'm glad!
ForeverUnited
Right, FU, if you say so...
Aamir
K.Benzima seems like heading to real circus,no problems lets try for fabiano,he had a good tournament.
abmtd
If I make a joke about signing an entire football club, will anyone laugh?
Tosswink
Fabiano seems a bit hit and miss for me. Had a really good season for Sevilla two seasons ago but hasn't hit those heights before or since. But at the same time, seems to possess all the attributes we're looking for. Personally, I'd like to see a cheeky punt for Marcus Berg. He seems to be a very natural goal poacher like huntelaar, comfortable with both feet but has the pace, vision and technique that huntelaar lacks. I'd rather Fergie put up £10M for him now and let him flop, than let Spurs sign him and then spend £30M on him in two years if he turns out to be good. I can't see any reason why berg has less chance of suceeding in the premier league than Huntelaar, Fabiano or Gignac - or even Benzema (afterall, Ligue 1 is not exactly the greatest league).
tuscan3000
ribery or messi would easy be a ronaldo replacment ForeverUnited so there
lathamwafc
lathamwafc - No they won't. Ribery won't get you Ronaldo's goals and as good as Messi is, he wont find it easier in the prem at all! So there.....
ForeverUnited
he is a decent player...but in my mind he will never be good enough to represent united he is not a class player....though i would love to be proven wrong on this... I do hope nani improves as i think he has some tremendous talent he just needs to mature a bit
ibrahiy
Messi better than Ronaldo
