'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Platini Speaks Out Against Real Madrid!

'These transfers are a serious challenge to the idea of fair play and the concept of financial balance in our competitions,' he complained.

'UEFA is working hard with clubs to set up a new set of rules... to clean up the system and give it a more solid, more transparent base.

'That is our top priority today.'

Would you think that Michel Platini actually accused Real Madrid of being a serious challenge to fair play? But it happened, you have to believe it.

So far I thought his ire was reserved for the English clubs, especially after last year when he insisted that nothing was wrong about the way Real Madrid pursued Ronaldo even though some of the means they used were clearly illegal. It's refreshing to see him responding with at least a pretence of fairness this time.

"challenging fair play"? Hardly scathing in his criticism is he. Man City were grotesque and ruining football. English clubs with debt were to be banned from all competition; now we're looking for clearer guidelines. The guy is still a hypocrite for me.

he may be a hypocrite but he has a point whats happening finacially in football is a joke supporters will soon be priced out the game!
dannybhoy46
Bollox, RM are deep in debt too. Try banning the, Platini, you cert.

enough of talking, now get some measures in place.

I know what will happen; they'll wait one or two seasons for madrids marketing money to come in and reduce their debts and then they'll say any teams with over £100M worth of debt will be banned from the champions league which will essentially rule out all the english teams (except maybe chelsea, whose owner could just write off what they owe him).
tuscan3000
Clearly illegal? So how was Real pursuit of Ronaldo different to your pursuit of Berbatov? Reality check needed!!!! Platini is right and deserves credit for once.
HuddersfieldYiddo
Well said Yiddo, some folk are just looking for an excuse to be xenophobic.

Yiddo - What? How can you compare the two!? Did Fergie or anyone on our board constantly talk about Berbatov and making sure we got him at all cost!? No one even MENTIONED his name until we signed him so I don't see how you can relate those two! We were in no way that disrespectful to your club and you know it!
