'If It's Football, It's Vital'

It Was Carrick's First Ever Away Goal

Michael Carrick is not a goalscorer and he wasn't signed for scoring goals. Still, many claim the biggest weakness of United's midfield is a lack of goals - Anderson never scored, Fletcher chips in rarely, Scholes is no longer prolific and then there's Carrick.

He scored a few in his first season: his first came against Aston Villa, he chipped in with one against Reading and of course there was the memorable brace against Roma: a stunningly clever finish for the opener and a majestic curled shot for the sixth.

Thing is, all these came at Old Trafford. His second season was even less prolific: he scored an irrelevant goal against City, and a wickedly deflected one against West Ham. Again, both at Old Trafford.

He's got a few more during this campaign: important and classy goals against Stoke and Hull, and he clinched the win against Pompey with a neat finish.

His 4th league goal of the season was his first on the road during his United career, and possibly the most important as well. Still, it's quite remarkable that he never scored an away goal for United before tonight's game!

Perhaps he could chip in with another one in Rome?

1 more point... 1 more point. So nearly there. Let's do this against Arsenal guys. Go for the win, and if we go one up they'll need 2 to take it off us. Not sure whether Arsenal will be flat and demoralised or up for this one. Either way, we need to be. Champions by 3pm would suit me fine.

What an important goal though! made it that little bit easier. You could tell what it meant to United - Rooney nearly broke his neck in celebrating - if Carrick hadn't held on to him and lessened his fall (!). And what did Vidic say to him after? Looked an interesting exchange of words.

The way I see it is that he just doesn't make enough foward runs.I truely believe that he can get up to 10-12 goals a season if he makes more of these foward runs, whether he is ordered to play in a more pirlo kind of a role I don't know but he does it very well but I do believe he can take the pressure of our strikers if he moves along with rooney, dimi, ronnie, tevez as they too can create and find a killer pass for him.He also has a good long range strike to go with his passing.
