'Incompetent' Ref Gets Chop

Graham Poll has replaced Phil Dowd as the referee for Manchester United against Arsenal on Sunday.

But League referees chief Keith Hackett insisted the decision was NOT because of criticism of Dowd by Wigan manager Paul Jewell after Monday's draw with Blackburn.

Hackett: 'Graham had been a doubt but is now fit. We made this decision at the end of the week because we fit the referee to the games, and he is our World Cup referee. It is nothing to do with any criticism of Phil Dowd.'
