Cristiano Ronaldo is the most overrated player on the planet. He is good against the likes of Fulham, West Bromwich and Middlesbrough but miserably fails every time he comes up against quality opposition.
Really, look at his last season. OK, 42 goals but greatness isn't measured in goals, it's measured in decisive contribution. I mean, how many he scored against Arsenal, who were our closest rivals for most of the season? Two goals and an assist? But Arsenal can't defend anyway.
But in the Champions League, really, he disappeared. What? He was top scorer? OK, everyone can be brilliant against the likes of Dynamo Kyiv and Sporting. Yes, yes, he scored the winner against Lyon but they are not the force they used to be. But when United needed him most, in the hostile atmoshpere in Rome, what did he do? Oh, buried a bullet header past Doni?
Never mind that, a Ballon d'Or winner must prove himself in the final and he missed his penalty there! OK, his duel with Essien in the first half was a total mismatch and he scored United's goal and crossed for Tevez for another brilliant chance and tormented his markers... oh.
But now, this season has truly shown him up to be an overrated show-pony. I mean, where was he when United were in trouble against Villa and Spurs? Oh, he scored goals that got the Champions out of jail. All right, all right. But in the Champions League, he went missing AGAIN. Well, apart from the Inter game at the San Siro where he was United's most dangerous player and only the post and Julio César denied him a deserved goal. And yes, with the exception of the second leg where he scored the clinching goal.
But hey, he was crap against Porto when we needed him most! Oh, apart from scoring an outrageously wonderful goal which sent us into the semi-finals.
But what about the Arsenal game? Oh, forget it, I'm getting out of here.
