'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Big, Big Victory For United

Sir Alex believes United clinched an important victory today at Middlesbrough. There are only four games remaining in the league and United are six points clear of Liverpool.

'It`s a big step forward, with only four games left now,' he said.

'I keep saying it`s about whittling the games away. Eventually there are no games left and hopefully we`ll be in that position at the top of the league.'

But it wasn't an easy game, according to the boss.

'Getting in front was the key to it.'

'I thought we`d have a great chance if we got in front because Middlesbrough are a young side, they`re at the bottom and nerves come into play when they`re playing Manchester United in that situation.

'They had to chase the game and that only opened the game up for us really.'

I was really suprised by how well Giggs played, I thought him and scholes would leave the back four exposed, but fortunately 'boro never really got going. I have to say if park ji sung can start finishing like that more often, he could be an excellent player. He's always in the right place, very alert around the 18 yard box, he just needs more composure with his end product. The game also further highlighted for me why we cannot justify buying tevez for £32M. His first touch is awful, he gives the ball away too often (granted he always tries to get it back) and has anyone else noticed that he only ever shoots straight down the middle? Even when he scores, its pretty much in the centre of the goal!

tuscan3000, very disappointed by your judgement over Carlito. today he wasn't as good as he was at Old Trafford Wednesday, but he came off the bench and it wasn't too easy to get in tune with the whole team.. also United should pay 22 mil, not 32 as you have mentioned.. hope he will start against arsenal, his contribution to the team's effort is much bigger than moody bulgarian's..

Leonax, I say £32M beccause I understand that we have already paid £10M for the 2 year loan, but I might be wrong. Even on wednesday he gave the ball away needlessly. Don't get me wrong, I admire his commitment and don't think he is a bad player, but I don't believe his attributes are suited to the pace of the premier league. Berba may not run as much, but that is because he rarely gives the ball away, and his touch, vision and passing are up there with the best of them. I agree that defensively he doesn't offer as much as tevez, but his quality in attack far outweighs tevezs contribution. Even if you look at the assist tevez got against tottenham where he setup rooney, Berbatovs amazing control and passing ability put tevez into the position to create that goal. Tevez' minutes played to goals scored ratio speaks for itself and bar running alot and closing people down, I cannot see what he contributes to the attack that others could not.

We really should've scored at least FIVE in this game. Everytime we attacked it looked like we had more attackers than their defenders. We should've got more goals for the goal difference factor.
