Rafael Rightly Rewarded

Rafael da Silva is enjoying an excellent debut season: due to the injuries of Hargreaves, Brown and Neville the young right-back was thrown into the deep end much earlier than anyone thought. Yet he did not drown, indeed, he became a key member of the squad.

He's even got his first goal, against Arsenal and can already boast a memorable big-game performance: he totally pocketed Robinho at Eastlands and had energy to go up and support the attacks as well in our 1-0 win.

Therefore, it's no surprise he's been rewarded with a two-year contract extension. Originally thought to be the inferior of Fabio, he outshone his injury-prone brother.

"It's been a fantastic first season and I have been learning from all the players at the club, especially from the defence,' he told the official website.

'It has been an exciting time for me and I want to be part of this club for a long time, so to get an extension to my contract is unbelievable.'

Sir Alex added that Rafael's enthusiasm and adventure is typical of what we all expect of Manchester United players and he richly deserves his place in the team and the new contract.

Keep it up, Rafael!

I was excited when the twins arrived....and rafael hasn't disapointed though i think we should extend fabio's contract i think it will be difficulkt if we separate the twins....and i'm hoping that in time when all fit that fabio will shine as well...i believe next season is his to make his mark....we need someone to challenge evra

He's great going forward but a little suspect at the back. But then again, you could say the same of Roberto Carlos and look how good he turned out to be! I have no doubt in my mind, he'll be the next Cafu, if not better!

completely agree.....but that raises the point that we need a competent defensive medfielder if both evra/fabio and rafael are both gonna be attacking
