Evra Is Not A Good Defender!
Another day, another thing learnt: Patrice Evra is not a good defender. It's not that he's not in the best form of his life, it's not that he, for some reason, always struggles against Lennon in a way he struggles against nobody else: quite simply he's not a good defender.
That's the opinion of Tony Cascarino who backed Walcott to give Arsenal the edge in the Champions League semi-finals because 'for me, Patrice Evra is not a good defender'. Well, there you go. Sir Alex keeps selecting a bad defender and he can't realise what a mistake this is.
I see his point. Remember last season, against Barcelona, how we were run ragged and chance after chance was created because Evra let his team down? Remember how he broke away on the left in Moscow in extra-time, only to provide a poor pass to Ryan Giggs who would have surely scored... oh. You mean the pass was perfect after a mazy run into the area?
Oh, forget that. You could see throughout last season that he's crap. I mean we were just shipping in goals as if they were going out of fashion. 22 goals conceded in the league, for heaven's sake and we have conceded TWICE during the Champions League knockout stages. TWICE. If Evra was anywhere near competent, surely he would have stopped Lampard slotting home Essien's deflected shot after Van der Sar slipped? Or he really should have done something about Benzema's 25-yard cracker.
No, he's just crap. Just not good enough, let's face it. But Tony, I still have one piece of advice to you: watch our FA Cup game against Arsenal last season. We had a useful guy at left-back, did quite well. Can't remember his name though, played in the number three shirt.

Right, so evra is a bad defender, vidic and vander sar are overated, rio is inconsistent, ronaldo is a big game bottler, carrick was a waste of money, anderson is awful, berba is a flop and rooney has deteriorated since joining united. We're a lucky team, who only score jammy goals with help from the ref, the fa loves us and we only win trophies because of our money which is why we have racked up so many large debts.
I sometimes wonder whether I should support someone else - I'm just glory hunter afterall. Maybe I should support that other red team with all the league trophies - you know the one with the world class winger - kuyt is his name I think! They're a great side!

Evra is a good defender and good going forward as well,probably the best LB in the prem but for some reason whenever he comes up against Lennon he really struggles.

Yeah when you lot pumped us at old trafford he was scary to watch, marauding down the left with Giggs, and even though I am a Chelsea fan, I also think Cascarino is full of rubbish. Another pathetic ex player who thinks he knows the modern game, but really he is just proving how morally decrepid footballers are, and it is not a new aspect of the game at all. (tuscan3000, loved the dig at Kuyt)

i think evra is in a similar mold to roberto carlos....where they like to spend alot of the game in the opponents half and are terrific going forward, evra is also good on set pieces however it is always difficult for a player to be maurading forward and defend at the same time....especially defending against walcott/lennon kind of pace....that is why he should stay back when we play them...at least that's what i think
