Ryan Giggs Should Be Player Of The Decade
Congratulations Ryan Giggs! United's now legendary number 11 won the PFA Player of the Year award for the first during his career, adding another title to his impressive collection.
I argued earlier why he shouldn't win the prize and I think even he knows that it's respect that won him this: the respect his colleagues surely feel towards him. And he fully deserves it.
But in order to really pay a tribute to him, a Player of the Year award is not the best. Many will say that he wasn't the outstanding performer this season and this is nothing but a sentimental vote.
That's why a Player of the Decade title would be more fitting. For me, and for most United fans, Ryan Giggs is the best player of Premier League history. Yep, there are other worthy candidates, not least his own teammate, Paul Scholes but Giggs' longevity, medals, professionalism and sheer quality put him in a league of his own.
So while I fully understand why most of his peers voted for Ryan, I still say that Rooney's been United's best player this season. However, Giggs only deserves praise and respect - and a Player of the Decade award, if only there was one.

It is sentimental. He has started 11 PL games this season. He does not deserve to be PoTY. He can get 'Lifetime Achievement' anytime, no doubt about his greatness. He is not even united player of the season.

There is no way based on merit that giggs is the Best player for 2009,For which the warad is for. Where is the integrity and honor? What 12 starts? They just made a mockery of the award and rendared it meaningless. Give him the professionalism award,the citizens award anything but THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR. THIS IS A JOKE AND ANY OBJECTIVE PERSON WITH INTEGRITY KNOWS THAT

I agree. He shouldn't have received the player of the year award. Surely the PFA could have come up with a more fitting award like Player of the Decade. I wouldn't argue one bit if he received that award.

sorry man....i disagree johndoe....i'm a united fan but i have always been an admirer of theirry henry...though he did not achieve anything compareable to the amount of accolades that giggsy won....I personally can't think of any one still playing that won more titles...feel free to share cuz i personally don't know
