Berbatov's Penalty Was Unacceptable

Berbatov's Penalty Was Unacceptable

Please note: I'm not one of the Berbatov bashers. I believe he'll become an excellent signing, I believe he's already contributed significantly to our cause this season. I have no issues with his workrate which is nothing more than a red herring. I like his style and my only criticism of him would be that he's not confident enough yet to exert full influence on games; he's too happy to remain in the shadow of Rooney, Ronaldo and co.

But, even though I like him, his penalty against Everton was unacceptable. I read how he reasoned: that Howard got the angle he had been looking for in the last minute so he saved it. But it's lame. The fact is that it was a lame, half-arsed spotkick in the shootout of the FA Cup semi-final where we could have gained a huge psychological advantage as Cahill had already missed the first penalty.

If he blasts it out of the stadium: fine. It happens to the greatest players. But simply passing it to the keeper? That's unacceptable and with this he totally let the team down.

I'd say he deserves to be left out of the squad on Wednesday but we need him: Macheda and Welbeck won't get another start so soon and Tevez's contributions now verge on the invisible. But he's got a lot to make up for.

Before stating about berbatov,I would just like to pass a comment on this topic of ''utd degrading the fa cup'' brought up by the tottenham supporters.I would like to bring to their notice that it was tottenham against shakthar playing their second or third string team out in a game where all was not lost, there was still a chance. But harry had other priorites, fair enough but I guess utd too, have other priorities, don't they?

As far as the utd fans at the stadium are concerned,I have no excuses, they paid big money, stood in lines for long hours but its not that utd lost by six or seven goals, they fought their heart out against a nearly full strength everton team and just lost on penalties. What most people forget is that a team is not made by names but the level of commitment and ofcourse skill that one possesses has the last say.I still stand by what I said that I'm proud of the players and will always be with that kind of commitment.

Now as far as our very own berba is concerned,I'll only say that pls don't judge a player in one season give him time.I have gone on various sites and read numerous articles about this guy being a waste but as Zae has rightfully mentioned its not that he hasn't done anything, yes he is not the one that performed so well for spurs but we will see that as well if we give him time.Berba you still have my support.

What irritates me the most is the manner in which the media our criticising him, don't they remember drogba who in his first season did not exactly set fire to the EPL but over a period of time turned out to be one of the most feared strikers in europe. It seems like everyone just wants a target and jump on his back.

First seasons are notoriously misleading, but it's not as if he's new to the country. I am slightly disappointed with him, partly because I really like Tevez (not Berbatov's fault i know but still) and i do just wonder if it was worth it, with Tevez possibly leaving as a result :(
