'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Keeping Macheda On The Ground Won't Be Easy

Ben Foster believes Kiko Macheda is a level-headed guy who won't get carried away - and even if he would, the lads in the dressing room would come down hard on that.

'Gary Neville puts his foot down on anything like that,' he opined.

Still, it won't be easy. Here's a 17-year-old Italian, with a knack for parties and nightlife (it seems so) who's suddenly thrown into the spotlight after an unbelievable week in which he kept the world's biggest clubs title challenge on track.

Everyone's talking about him and his goals triggered the chairman of the UEFA to talk a whole load of nonsense once again. Quite an impact, I'd say and it won't be easy to prevent him believing his hype before long. You know that humble guy at United, that Ronaldo? Surely Gary Neville stamped out his flirtings with being a big-time Charlie? Oh.

Still, it seems Sir Alex knows the dangers (he would, of course, after dealing with the likes of Whiteside, McGrath, Robson and Sharpe) and he's had a quiet chat with the parents about the attention that their son is getting.

Several things occured to me. First, how in the hell did they understand him? Second, it is good that the boss isn't afraid to invest time and energy in the young players, to ensure they are treated in the proper way. And third, it is a blessing that Macheda is foreign and has few friends and pals about - it will be much easier to keep him in check than it would be in case of an English lad. And his parents surely know what they have to do - if they understood Fergie's accent, that is.
