Rooney Knows His Priorities

Not winning the league for the third time in a row is something most clubs would be pretty happy with, for it implies they've won back-to-back titles. However, not landing the Premiership crown would indeed be a failure for Manchester United, as Wayne Rooney admitted.

'When you win the league, you know it will be even more disappointing the next season if you don`t win it again,' he said.

'You`ve already proved you`re good enough to do it, so you can`t see it as anything but a failure if you don't retain the trophy.

'The history of the club demands we continue winning, and the manager demands we continue winning.'


Great demands, these. It looks like Rooney has little thought for Porto, for his second aim is winning the FA Cup, something which has so far eluded him at United. Wayne admitted that he grew up dreaming about scoring a winner at Wembley and though he was United's best player in the 2005 and 2007 final as well, we lost both.

Well, there's the chance to put things right, starting next weekend against his former club...

I'm caught between thinking everything is going wrong for us at the moment and reminding myself that we are still top of the league with a game in hand (some achievement with the way we've played and the disruptions we've had), we're in a good position in the FA Cup, we've won the Carling and Club World Cups, and we've still got it all to play for in the Champions League. We're still in a VERY good position, if we've made it harder for ourselves.
