Player Reactions To Porto: Rooney, Carrick, Vidic

United were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by a skilled and brave Porto side. The players, though, hasn't lost belief - or they just haven't shown it in front of the media.

Michael Carrick:: 'We can beat anyone on our day, so we will go to Portugal with confidence and believing we can win. We'll give it our best shot. They're a good team, but I wouldn't say we'll worry about that. They're a good side and you expect that at this stage of the competition. We're not getting too down about the result. We're not out. We're still involved and we have plenty to play for.'

Nemanja Vidic: 'We started badly by losing an early goal, but got ourselves back into it. At 2-1 we knew it would be a good result for us, but it didn't work out that way and we know we need to go to Porto and win the game. We have the players up front who can score goals, but we won't go there and be stupid by just going on the attack. They have some very good players, particularly up front, who will be looking to capitalise on any mistakes we might make, so we need to be clever with our play.'

Wayne Rooney: "We knew Porto were a good team, we knew what to expect and we should have dealt with it better. They have got a good away record in Europe this season and we knew what we needed to do, but we just didn`t deal with it, simple as that. We created a lot of problems for ourselves as a team and you don`t really want to do that. Thankfully we`re still in the tie as it could have been worse tonight. Hopefully we will go there and prove ourselves to be a good team and get the victory."

Your Comments

I keep reading these comments how badly the defense was, Ronaldo's giving the ball away etc. Absolute nonsense. The weak part of the team for the last couple of games have been the midfield and forwards. How many chances did we create last night, how many shots on goal did we have? The answer is almost none. Rooney's goal was completely undeserved. It was practically unforced own goal. The goal of Tevez was a lucky fluke in absolutely toothless MU offensive play. How many times did Ronaldo beat the defense, deliver an inviting cross or created chance for himself or a teammate? The answer is almost none. Same is true for Rooney. One flick for the second goal was his entire contribution to the game. What about the static midfield - Carrick and co. did watch the the form close range. Despite the fact that Ronaldo scored two goals against Villa and Tevez scored one against Porto their contribution to the game is minimal. Tevez runs like headless chicken all the time. He cannot shoot, cannot pass the ball, cannot stop the ball, cannot take on defenders, does not read the game. Ronaldo is pathetic, apart from his power shooting nothing is left in his game these days. They both need to be benched for some time. Anyone else would have contributed much more. As for midfield I do not see solution. There is no one that we can employ to improve the mobility and creativity of our dismal midfield. Carrick is overrated, Schools and Giggs need to retire. Effectively with Ronaldo, Tevez, and Carrick we are playing three man down all games. How we can expect to dominate or win games like this.

dude you are wrong about this the medfield has been horrible.....even horrible is not adequate enough....horride is the word.....they don't provide the defensive help needed and they don't create chances....I am sorry if the two strikers we got even when they had no support whatsoever were able to get 2 goals in a game were the opposite team had the whole team defending...i would say we got great playerswho are onform.....but the medfield is struggling.....where is ronaldo...he couldn't beat his man all night against porto(and only showed up at the end ofvilla game)....giggs has been okay....park was disapointing.....carrick and scholes were awful...too many misplaced passes...(to me that last game signalled scholes being done...since he was fully rested....and yet did nothing)....i think we need a medfield enforcer....i am still not convinced with fletcher....he doesn't have good vision to see a pass.....he is not great defensively...he is decent....we need hargo back....how about possebon is he doing well in the reserves...
