Fergie Rues That Terrible Goal

Fergie Rues That Terrible Goal

Just how jolly it would have been had Konrad Plautz ended the game after 88 minutes? United would have won 2-1, unconvincingly but at least taking a fairly good result to Porto.

But games rarely last less than 90 minutes (and often more than that, for which we had to be grateful on Sunday) and Mariano Gonzalez made us pay for another moment of defensive horror.

'You have to think the last goal was one we could not afford to lose,' Fergie lamented.

'It was a terrible goal to give away when you are 2-1 up and seeing the game out.

'It is a difficult job now, not made any easier when they tell you no British team has won in Porto.

'But we only have ourselves to blame. We just have to win. We have been first at everything at this club. Let's hope we can be first again.'

Last season's Manchester United would have an excellent chance of winning at Porto and breaking the British jinx. But then last season's Manchester United would have stuffed them 3-0 in the first leg.

Fergie also admitted that the team looked tired - we can only hope and pray that he's got ideas to fight that particular problem because it threatens to derail our entire season.

dude it don't help that half of our defence i sinjured....rio...evanss(has been carrying a knock for a few weeks), fabio, rafael, wes, gary(he just came back and looks very very rusty)....what other team has had that problem.....oh right just us.... how about in medfield we got anderson, hargo out.. attack we got rooney, berba.... its quiet along injury list and when its the end of the season the last thing you want is a list as big as that one....we would be lucky if we get a couple of these players back soon...and i hope that would be before porto game so then we would have a chance of winning at porto...

Rooney brilliant; Ronaldo abysmal - should be dropped he looks like he doesn't want to be there - i'm sorry, i know he scored twice against Villa but i don't fancy his attitude; the rest, where has their form gone. Porto without Rooney, we'd have lost 2-0 (at least). We had 4 good chances - Vidic's header; Rooney's brilliant shot out of nothing; Rooney's goal which didn't involve any of the other players (United ones anyway :P) and the Tevez goal from the Rooney flick out of nothing. Tell you something? Without Rooney (he could be injured for Sunderland) we struggle. On the defence, when Ferdinand comes back, and Rafael/Brown we should be much better.
