Fergie Rues That Terrible Goal
Just how jolly it would have been had Konrad Plautz ended the game after 88 minutes? United would have won 2-1, unconvincingly but at least taking a fairly good result to Porto.
But games rarely last less than 90 minutes (and often more than that, for which we had to be grateful on Sunday) and Mariano Gonzalez made us pay for another moment of defensive horror.
'You have to think the last goal was one we could not afford to lose,' Fergie lamented.
'It was a terrible goal to give away when you are 2-1 up and seeing the game out.
'It is a difficult job now, not made any easier when they tell you no British team has won in Porto.
'But we only have ourselves to blame. We just have to win. We have been first at everything at this club. Let's hope we can be first again.'
Last season's Manchester United would have an excellent chance of winning at Porto and breaking the British jinx. But then last season's Manchester United would have stuffed them 3-0 in the first leg.
Fergie also admitted that the team looked tired - we can only hope and pray that he's got ideas to fight that particular problem because it threatens to derail our entire season.
