Scholes, Rooney And Vida All Back For Porto Game

Scholes, Rooney And Vida All Back For Porto Game

United will face Porto on Tuesday with a much bigger squad as Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic and Paul Scholes all return from suspension and are expected to start, barring injury.

"I don't think any of the injured players will be back on Tuesday," Fergie told MUTV.

"But we do have the suspended players back which is good.

"Vida will play alongside Jonny Evans at the back with John O'Shea moving to right-back.

"Rooney and Scholes are also available which will give us a bit more penetration and experience, and Ji-sung Park will also be ready so I've got some good options for Tuesday.

"I'll have to assess how Ryan is after playing the 90 minutes against Villa. It's a big ask for someone at 35 years of age to play another game two days later at the kind of level we play."

Starting Rooney and Vidic is pretty obvious... but of course it's a great risk to field Paul Scholes. All his experience did not stop him beating the ball away inside the box at Craven Cottage and his legs are no longer up to the pace of the Premiership. Yet the slower rhytm of the Champions League and Porto's less aggressive approach might suit him - hopefully it will work out well.

Obviously roon and vida will start but this is a game where rio would be of great importance,So I'm disappointed that he won't be there because we have seen that vida is fantastic against strong, physical players,so he should be able to take care of hulk.I just hope that evans does the job of rio,he's talented but inexperienced, thats the only downfall.

Porto will most probably try to exploite us from the flanks, just like villa did.JOHN O'SHEA I hope he holds out till the final whistle is blown.Whenever I see a person running at O'Shea I get really nervous and evra too,who has had a fantastic season uptil now seems to lack a bit of confidence

I do not entirely agree with ZAE because I do feel that porto might just attack us which could actually work in our favour or they might try to keep it tight in the middle and attack from the flanks because thats where our weakness lies.I just hope we will play park on the right and ronaldo on the left because there is no way ronaldo will be chasing back and that will expose O'SHEA completely.

Infact we might even play ronaldo as a striker and play tevez or rooney as a left midfielder just to make us more solid as a defensive unit.In the midfield carrick and fletcher for sure.fletcher is a must because he acts as our defensive warrior and its very important in CL games, scholes can take carricks place if we want to refresh things up but for me its carrick and fletch in the middle.

carrick and fletcher in midd were poor in my opinion in the villa game...tho carrick did help in ronaldo's goal... I don't think we need to panick much on the defensive side as I think porto will more than likely take a cautious approach....and if we don't attack them then they will feel more comfortable to attack then we would be in a bit of trouble....but as far as i have seen from them we should be good...
