Well this won't be easy, no matter how you look at it. We have one available striker for Sunday (apart from Danny Welbeck) and that's Carlos Tevez who travelled thousands of miles after a 6-1 mauling.
Dimitar Berbatov is out injured (probably for another two weeks) while Rooney is suspended (thank God he'll be available for the Porto game on Tuesday). So it looks like we'll be very lightweight in attack against Aston Villa.
Tevez might be tired and in any case his Premiership performances this season left a lot to be desired. He was excellent in the League Cup, yes, but in the league he was below average, too often looked sluggish and blunt.
His partner will be either Giggs or Ronaldo I think - neither is ideal. Would still prefer Giggs (even though he's not a very likely source of goals if we're honest) because we need Ronaldo on the flanks to give the team some width cause it's clear that this season Nani can't provide it - his awfulness is downright terrifying at times.
Anderson is not available (as far as I know, there's been little said about his injury), neither is Scholes (which I think is rather fortunate, I must confess) so the options are rather limited...
I expect this line-up for the Villa game: Van der Sar - O'Shea, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra - Ronaldo, Carrick, Fletcher, Park - Giggs - Tevez.
And a similar eleven will face Porto, with Rooney coming in for Giggs and Vidic for Evans. Probably Scholes will play as well... not overjoyed by the prospect but he could still do a job at the slower pace of European football. Here's hoping.
