Rooney To Play Against His Favourite Opponents

Ok, calling them his favourite is stretching a bit: it's fair to say that honour belongs to Arsenal against whom Rooney usually excel (Emirates this season was an exception but only because he missed some tremendous chances).

But Rooney scored two of his best United goals against Newcastle: the tremendous volley at Old Trafford in 2005 and a delightful effort that flew into the far corner when the teams last met at St. James' Park. Statistically: he scored eight goals in ten games against the Barcodes.

He'll start at Newcastle tomorrow after getting only seven minutes at the San Siro and sitting out the Carling Cup final because of a virus. I wouldn't bet against him continuing his fine goalscoring run in the Premier League...
