A Trophy Is A Trophy!

The Carling Cup is not United's priority and let's face it, it would hardly be a disaster if we lost it. It wouldn't generate a great sense of missed opportunity, we wouldn't look back with regret - even losing a final against Liverpool, in 2003, was not as painful as it would have been in the FA Cup.

But still, holding a trophy aloft is fantastic, something to be cherished. And it's a proper competition, you don't get the trophy after playing one or two games. United have won bigger and better things in the past two seasons (and before that, of course) and are likely to retain their league title - but the Carling Cup's a nice way to whet your appetite.

And our last final appearance in the competition was such a memorable one: United were magnificent that day, brushing aside Wigan with ease and at least did not finish that infamous season trophyless. That was a good day out for the fans, ending with winning a trophy.

And as I said, a trophy's always a great thing. Would I swap it for a win over Inter at Old Trafford? Yeah, probably. But the original point still stands.

Enjoy these days while you can... the Premiership is hotting up and the comforatable Top 4 will be a Top 7 in a couple of seasons... Fergie will be retired and you won't be able to be so arrogant talking about winning trophies.

Cheers for all the support btw. I just wanted to win the CC not because it was another trphy but just because Spurs would have to fight for an European place like everyone else. They were looking for the easy way into Europe and it wouldn't have been fair for them to have taken the spot of the 7th placed team!
