Inter Milan players firmly believe they have the beating of United - but that's no surprise as Mourinho's greatest strength is that he injects confidence into his players. Serie A offer very little competition for Inter so the clash with the European Champions is doubtless the most daunting task they've faced all season.
But it doesn't frighten Mourinho and doesn't frighten his players it seems.
"I`ll say first thing to my players Sunday morning that I have huge faith in them," he said. "I will tell them we can win."
"It doesn`t matter how many of my team can get into theirs, because my team is more than the sum of the parts. Players don`t play individually, and United is not better than us."
"We must play against them with pleasure and not pressure. The rest is tactics, and that`s not a problem."
And that's not a problem because... but I allow Zlatan Ibrahimovic to explain it: the Swedish genius who always excels in the Serie A but usually fails in the Champions League has a remarkably simple theory.
'Mourinho is a better coach than Ferguson,` he claimed, without any explanation.
'Ferguson has much experience and I respect him but Mourinho is superior in lots of ways.
'Mourinho has really inspired me and I am prepared to fight against the United defenders. This style of game is actually preferable because from a physical point of view I will never take a step back.
'I am always ambitious and I want to show myself better than Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov. They are two sensational forwards but I want to be better than this pair.
'In some ways, this is the game that should have been the final. These two teams are the best in Europe and it`s a shame that one of them has to go out at this stage.
'United may be champions of Europe but we are champions of Italy and I warn them that they are about to suffer.`
