Gibson Deserves To Start At Wembley

Darron Gibson will definitely start against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup final, Sir Alex Ferguson promised. The young Irishman performed confidently at Pride Park yesterday and more than deserved his goal.

Gibbo played in every cup game we had this season and one thing is clear judged on his displays: he's NOT a right midfielder, he's a central midfielder and a good one at that. I was alarmed by some of his earlier performances, especially at Derby in the Carling Cup but that time he was asked to play on the right which did him no favours.

On his return to Pride Park he excelled, combining excellently with the dynamic Fletcher. The quality of his passing is still way off that man whose style his resembles most, Michael Carrick, but he's getting better and better. I'm still not certain that he'll make it at United but it looks a decent bet that he'll become a Premiership midfielder.

And it is also certain that he deserves to start at Wembley. The Carling Cup may not be the most prestigious of trophies but for a youngster like Gibson this is a very big game with great pressure and pressure is something they need to get used to if they intend to cut it at Old Trafford. Fergie vowed to be bold with his selection and this boldness served us well this season so far.

Hmmm. He's a decent player of what i've saw but i wouldn't start him in a final. Not good enough for Man United in my opinion.

I have my doubts as well but he played in every single Carling Cup game en route to the final and if young players don't get the chance to play in matches which bring extra pressure (like finals) then they won't develop.

Oh, and the games against Inter and Liverpool are more important to be honest. It's good that we have a proper midfielder who can be thrown in to protect the key players for the biggest games.
