Carrick Wasn't Sulking

Michael Carrick is in the England squad that will face Spain tonight. United's best central midfielder was called up for the second time by Capello who ignored him for his first nine games in charge. However, Carrick didn't lose too much sleep over his England snub.

'Not being in the England squad was not something I was worried about,' he said. 'It was just a case of getting it right at United.

'I believed I would get back in the squad if I was playing well enough and that has been the case. It was not something I was losing sleep about because it wasn't something I could control.'

'I wanted to be in the squad. That goes without saying, but when I wasn't it wasn't something I was going to moan and sulk about.

'What was that going to change if I went around moping? I always knew that if you played consistently well for your club then you would be picked.

'I was never going to get down about it.

'At the time last season we were going for the Premier League and Champions League and that had to be my concern and my main focus.

'Apart from trying to play well it was all out of my hands.'

There you are. At least we know that England now have a manager who calls up players who play well. Refreshing change after poor old McClaren and the infuriating Eriksson.

don't think he will play myself even though he should

^^ I agree... I think it'l be Barry, Lampard & Beckham as a middle three. Shame though because at some point the boy needs to meet the level that the price tag carry's. Im sure it'l come sooner or later! Get £100's in free bets @ www.freebetbonuses.co.uk (please gamble responsibly)

Well, he did play, did not set the stage alight but didn't get injured either and that's the most important. He's slated now but we all know he's brilliant, it's his club form that really matters, to me at least.
