Tony Adams Is Still Working Against United!
Fergie wrote in his autobiography how much he admired Tony Adams and that 'I can't wait for him to retire'. Well, he did, yet it seems he can't stop undermining United!
Today he had the perfect opportunity to deliver a memorable win as Rafa Crackin' Benitez fielded a team at Fratton Park which was simply baffling. Sure enough, Liverpool were terrible and Portsmouth even took the lead. I envisaged the headlines about Liverpool's feeble challenge being over... how wrong I was.
First, ex-Liverpool player Peter Crouch's woeful backpass was handled by ex-Liverpool player David James. Free-kick inside the box, Aurelio rammed it home.
Oh well. Pompey soon went ahead again (the tremendously overrated Reina made yet another mistake) and it looked like they might hold on. However, Adams' pupils had other ideas. Anyone care to explain that how a former defender like himself can tolerate what Distin and Campbell regularly do this season? This time, they simply refused to clear the ball no matter how Torres and Kuyt tried to screw up Liverpool's attack and in the end the dippers equalised.
Then when a draw looked almost assured, they left Torres totally unmarked and he scored another... If Pompey weren't sliding towards relegation with alarming speed I'd say Adams is doing it on purpose - their defending was unreal!
Oh well. United can regain top spot with a win or a draw tomorrow and still have a game in hand against the worst away side (bar Stoke) of the top flight. But it would have been so satisfying to see another dismal Liverpool draw or defeat... well, you can't have everything I suppose.
