Fergie: Stories Of Replay-Scrapping Are Rubbish

On Friday the big news was that Sir Alex Ferguson allegedly mentioned an old FA rule which would enable clubs to agree about settling an FA Cup game without replay. It is a rule, that's true but clubs have to agree a week before the game so it was not an option against Spurs. And now Sir Alex claims he's been misinterpreted as he did not ask to scrap replays altogether.

'It was scandalous stuff in The Sun newspaper, scandalous,' he said.

'I don't know what we do about these people.

'There was never any question of Manchester United asking to scrap replays. I said that yesterday. You can`t deny clubs like Southend and Torquay the chance to get some glory for themselves and get some revenue.

'I`d have taken a replay, I don`t think there would have been any problem with that. But nonetheless it`s better to get through.'

Sure it is. But something is not clear: was Fergie considering evoking that rule or not? It is all messed up now. Not that it matters much, but I'm interested. I like replays, though.
