Final's Referee: United Behaved Better In Moscow

Champions League final's referee, Lubos Michel, revealed that United players were much more focused and disciplined than Chelsea's complaining stars at the big clash in Moscow.

'The big matches can be about the mistakes of the referee and there was big tension, especially from Chelsea because they hadn't won the trophy before.'

'I had more problems with the Chelsea players; United's were more concentrated. Chelsea had big stars but I thought United had more team spirit.'

'The main problem in modern football is respect to opponents and referees. In that kind of situation, some Chelsea players were over-motivated and there was too much dissent.'

'The game was played on the edge. It was very difficult to hold all of these players under control.'

And our team spirit certainly helped balancing Chelsea's physical superiority - they ran more and shot more but we were more dangerous.

Michel says Chelsea's players were over-motivated - true, with the exception of one Nicolas Anelka. Such a shamefully uninterested player had no place in a Champions League final and he was duly punished for his attitude as he missed the crucial penalty. Sweet memories indeed!

I still feel an unbelievably satisfying feeling whenever I watch the highlights of that magical night. It didn't really sink in for me until about two weeks after it happened when I watched the whole match again - and I just felt extatic. For the first time, it really really felt like we'd done something special. Before I hadn't been able to fully get my head round it!!

I have vague drunken memories of hugging me mum. Very unmanly! But then, it takes a truly special moment... :)
