Edwin Extends - So There's No Replacement Yet

Edwin van der Sar has extended his Manchester United contract for another year despite being increasingly shaky this season. Great player but it's obvious that he's still number one mostly because there's no suitable replacement yet.

Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak are used sparingly but both are given the chance to show their worth. However, Edwin, 38, is still the number one.

'Edwin's got great experience and his temperament, professionalism and performance levels have not changed one bit,' Fergie said.

'Next season will be his last - he'll be going on 40 by the time his new deal is finished, which is great credit to the lad. He's been absolutely marvellous for us.'

True, his penalty save in Moscow shall never be forgotten - but we should start looking for a replacement sooner rather than later. Tomasz Kuszczak is simply not good enough to be a number one at United - he's a very good number two though and hope he's content in that role.

Fergie plans him to compete with Foster who is still the 'dark horse' but it looks like that the gaffer trusts neither sufficiently and that's why he still clings on to Edwin van der Sar.
