Fergie: We Had The Best Result

United played badly and could only ground out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park but Sir Alex wasn't too disappointed, not in front of the press anyway.

'Obviously we haven't taken advantage, but in context of the difficulties of the three teams we're talking about - Liverpool, Chelsea and ourselves - I think we're the team that's had the best result today.

'At the end of the day I'm satisfied in the effort the players made. It was a very determined and aggressive Aston Villa team. They really set out to make it difficult for us, but we handled that well. Today has proved that Aston Villa are a much-improved side with a lot of consistency about them, and I really think they could be in the top four.'

Yeah, we had the best result considering the difficulty of the opposition but it's very small comfort. We should have taken advantage.

As for the players' effort: are you really satisfied with it Fergie? Because if you are then things won't get better I'm afraid.

After seeing all the other title contenders drop points (and Liverpool and Chelsea both at home) I was disappointed with this result, especially that we did not score. HOWEVER, come the end of the season, this will be remembered as just a 0-0 draw away at Villa, and considering how they are playing, could actually turn out to be not a bad result. And we'd won so often (and easily) against them in the past, that a negative result was well overdue. On the basis of the day, yes, it's disappointing, but, to be honest, I probably would have taken that at the beginning of the day, as I was very worried about this game.
