Berbatov's Injury Is Not Serious

Berbatov's Injury Is Not Serious

Fortunately, Dimitar Berbatov did not tear his hamstring during the wretched international week but the slight strain he picked up means he'll be out for the next three games.

It's no good news and our squad is getting thinner and thinner. Problems in central midfield are well documented, Rio and Rooney are still doubtful...

"Rio is very doubtful for tomorrow, I don`t think he`ll make it," Sir Alex Ferguson told his pre-match press conference. "Rooney has a good chance, he trained on Wednesday and Thursday and if he comes through today he should be involved.

'Berbatov will miss Saturday and Tuesday's match against Villarreal, but there`s a slight chance he may be available for the City game. It`s not a tear, it`s a strain. But you don`t take any chances with hamstrings, there`s no point making it worse.

'Wes will be missing for a few weeks. There`s no timescale on it, but may be about 4-5 weeks. It`s disappointing, but we`ve got cover with Gary (Neville) and Rafael, and John O`Shea can also play there."

I think Rooney will at least be on the bench for the Villa game. I think this could be one of the deciding matches of the season: I think if we win, then we will be right up there at the end, however, if Villa get the three points, they could be looking good to get into the Champions League, and it would be very difficult for us to make up the lost ground.

One good thing about Berbatov's injury is at least we get to see Rooney and Tevez together again (providing Rooney's fit). But... we'll probably need clinical finishing against Villa (and definitely Villareal with all the goalless draws they seem to get against us) which Berbatov tends to be good at. Sadly, Tevez and Rooney (now he's off his fantastic scoring run) are not really

It's sods law that Rooney will be fit to face Villa this afternoon - and the guy does seem to love playing at Villa Park so I really hope he's at least on the bench. Even if that does happen though, we've still got to put up with Tevez, easily one of my most highly rated players in the Prem, I was amazed at how easily Fergie dropped him for you. Best of luck for the title, but just not this afternoon. Up the Villa!
