Paul Ince Set To Return To Old Trafford

Paul Ince will make an earlier than expected return to Old Trafford if he's not fired in the next two weeks as his Blackburn team has been paired with Manchester United in the Carling Cup.

Of course we've already met the former fan favourite's current team and outclassed them at Ewood Park, with the 2-0 scoreline distinctly flattering them. This time they will probably face our kids but the likes of Welbeck, Rafael and Possebon are unlikely to be overawed by Rovers...

The game will be played at Old Trafford in the week commencing December 1. The bookies now have United as favourites for the Carling Cup and it would be nice to win it - a trophy never goes amiss, even if it's only the least prestigious and important of all.

I think we have a good chance in the Carling Cup, but I am not sure we can bet on beating Blackburn completely with our kids. I think it all depends on how Fergie rates the Carling Cup (or not, as it may well be) whethere we could win it or not. I think he will leave out a lot of his first team for the Blackburn game, possibly playing the likes of Anderson, Nani, Tevez, Possebon, Welbeck, Foster, Evans... maybe Scholes depending on how he's coming on with injury, and Neville. Rooney or Ronaldo might be thrown into the mix if Fergie is (as he says) intent on sweeping all before us, but I'd expect them to start on the bench. If we get through to the semis, however, I can see Fergie putting a very strong side out, and if we were to reach the final, I think it would be pretty much a first eleven - i can't see Fergie passing up the chance for an early trophy that lightly...
