Ronaldo Begins Accumulating Awards

Players of more than 40 football associations from all over the world voted Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player of 2008.

The United winger got the FifPro award as expected, beating Messi, Torres and Xavi in the process. He is one of two United players in the FifPro eleven, Rio Ferdinand being the other one.

FifPro, by the way, is the international umbrella organisation of players and its awards carries little prestige, in all honesty. But it should be only a beginning for Ronaldo who is the clear favourite for both FIFA World Player of the Year award and the Ballon d'Or.

The FifPro team in full: Casillas; Sergio Ramos, Terry (?), Ferdinand, Puyol (?); Gerrard (what?!), Kaka (for god's sake, he was average last season), Xavi; Messi, Torres, Ronaldo.

They'll all look good on the mantelpiece in his rooftop penthouse in the centre of Madrid. So much sun. Sexy girls to chase. Money to spend and Old Trafford will be a dim and grey memory. His heart is already set on other things...

Sindbad - Thanks for your unimaginably powerful insight, we'll keep that in mind. What else? He'll leave next year and we'll be a midtable team. What else?
