Fergie Happy But Rooney Should Stay In Manchester

Sir Alex insists he's got no problems with Wayne Rooney being called up to the England squad to face Kazakhstan and Belarus despite his ankle injury.

'I have no issues with him joining England,' Fergie said.

'The games they have they should cope even if Wayne was not to make next Saturday's game.

'That's Fabio Capello's call and how he progresses in the next few days but I have no problems with that.'

Why travel if he doesn't make the game? It's not even a club v country matter: it's about the player. Aggravating an ankle injury just to play against Kazakhstan and Belarus does not make sense. They are risking his fitness unnecessarily.

But of course we have little choice: he's called up, he'll travel and judging by our recent luck with injuries, his ankle will flare up again and he'll be ruled out for weeks...

Everyone says hes crap for England so i'd love it if he didnt play one game to see how England fair...

I worry about Rooney sometimes - I think he pushes himself too hard. I can just see it - there are two possible outcomes to this. a) Rooney plays both games despite the fact he's still not 100% (this is partly not England's fault, as I think Rooney will say he's fine to play, despite the fact he's not) and he'll either aggravate his injury, so he's out for weeks, or he'll be absolutely shattered when he gets back. b) He only plays one of the games because he starts the first one but because he's already carrying an injury, he succumbs to another, far more serious one, and he's out for months. It would be just our luck, wouldn't it?

P.S. I love England, and if I though Rooney should play, I'd want him to. But he's gone through it for England before, invariably with it all going wrong. He needs to think about his fitness (and long-term effects on his career) for once, instead of wanting to play every game. I think part of the reason he gets so many injuries is that he works too hard to get back earlier than is sensible.

But come on... surely England don't need Wayne for Belarus or Kazakhstan?? Do they?

Well it either Wayne or that little bag of **** Owen. And Wayne on one leg is better than that over rated tw*t.
SweetLeftFoot
I rate Wayne, SweetLeftFoot, but I still think that's a little harsh. Owen's been one of England's best strikers in recent years. My view: England play Rooney at home, just to see how he gets on. If he scores, and plays really well with no injury worries, then fine. If he struggles, I don't think flying to Belarus will really help. He should stay at home for that one.

Unless... just had a thought - maybe Rooney's not as injured as we think, and Fergie's going to play him today against Blackburn. It's not like him to be so relaxed about him going on England duty carrying an injury... a sadly frequent occurance with Wayne nowadays.

Wow... what did I say??? He was terrific tonight and United are finally showing why they are Double Champions.
