Ince As United Manager? Forget It!

Paul Ince did not rule out that he could be after Fergie's job in the future. I don't think he seriously believes he's got a chance.

When pushed by journalists about his chances of becoming United manager one day, Ince's response was quite predictable.

'Who`s to say what might happen in the future. Why not? I`d need to do reasonably well in the Premier League for six or seven years to even be considered.

But I know how the club work and I know all about the success the club thrive on.'

Most of our ex-players respond very similarly when asked about their prospects. However, while some of them could really end up at Old Trafford - Keane and Sparky -, the idea of Ince sitting in Fergie's seat is alarming.

To put it simply: I find it difficult to forgive how he celebrated his equaliser for Liverpool at Anfield in 1999, the goal which could have derailed our Treble bid. 'I hope he enjoyed it' wrote Sir Alex in his autobiography - I hope, too, but a man who celebrates a Liverpool goal against Manchester United with such fervour has no place at Old Trafford.

There are more pragmatic reasons of course: success have gone to Ince's head back in his playing days. His ego outgrew Old Trafford - just like Ronaldo's in these days, I'm afraid. There is nothing wrong with a manager who's got a huge ego - Sir Alex did reasonably with United - but someone who can't handle success in the right way is simply not suited for such a job.

Good luck to Paul Ince and his team tomorrow but he's very close to the bottom of the list of potential United managers for me.

is a shame Fergie said what he said and then was all smiles for the tv cameras. Ince is the bigger man for shaking his hand before the match.
