'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United v Villarreal - Player Ratings!

Edwin van der Sar: I was worried he might get cold though the weather wasn't too bad. Nothing to do, absolutely nothing. 6

Gary Neville: Very active but I don't think he had one really good cross... 5

Rio Ferdinand: Stroll in the park for the big man. 7

Jonny Evans: Looked confident and had little trouble with Villarreal's rare attacks. What a shame he hasn't scored. 6

Patrice Evra: Good game, his pace and dribbling caused endless problems for the Spanish side but his end product lacked on occasions. 7

Ji-sung Park: The Korean was twice fouled inside the area - no penalties given. He missed a good chances and drifted inside far too often, leaving Gary Neville alone on the wings. 6

Darren Fletcher: Dominated the midfield, he put on yet another good Champions League showing. Faded a bit for the second half but still tackled everyone, everywhere. 7

Owen Hargreaves: Timely interceptions and good passing. Seemed to be a bit short of match fitness so Fergie was right to substitute him after an hour. 7

Luis Nani: Very inconsistent. Made a few bad decisions, especially in the second half after a good display in the first half. 6

Wayne Rooney: Pulled the strings finely and it is not his fault that Tevez missed the perfect chance presented to him by our Wayne. 7

Carlos Tevez: One brilliant shot aside it looks like the Anfield experience shook him. He was far too uncertain in front of goal and everywhere else. 5

Cristiano Ronaldo: One great pass, one great chance and injected a lot of momentum. 7

Anderson: His positioning when Villarreal were attacking was quite poor and though he used his pace to relatively good effect his passes were often astray. 6

Ryan Giggs: Too little time to make a real impact after brought on for Tevez. 6

i gotta admit, i thought Nani was our best player. True, he was infuriating at times, but he was by far our most creative, attacking player. Evra also had a good game.
