Gerrard Out But Is It Good For Us?

Gerrard Out But Is It Good For Us?

Steven Gerrard won't be rushed back into action from his latest injury and will miss Saturday's game against United. I'm not sure if it's good news.

Of course, Gerrard is an influential captain, fighter, goalscorer etc., insert any superlative you wish. Many say that Liverpool are a pretty average side without him.

The thing is, they are a pretty average side with him as well. Granted, he and Torres are the only ones who are capable of moments of inspiration and if one of them is absent - only one of them as Torres looks set to return - that should be a huge boost.

But we've seen few of those sparks of inspiration from Gerrard when he played against United. Actually, he was better against us when he wasn't regarded as a brilliant hero in England, the days when he was only a promising player.

In recent seasons, I cannot remember anything worthy of note from Gerrard when he was playing against us. Last season he was twice in the pocket of Anderson, a then 19-year-old, inexperienced Brazilian. So is it such a big deal that he'll be absent? No, unfortunately not.

Maybe it's not such a big deal, but it's still a big advantage for us. If Torres plays, he's hardly going to be fit, so psycologically at least, we should have the upper-hand (most of our playears are now fit).

As a Liverpool fan, I do disagree with this article. Yes, Gerrard hasn't done a lot in recent games against United but then neither have any of our players. We only have a couple of potential match winners in our side and Gerrard is one of them. United are obviously a much better side but we can still get a result and we are due one at Anfield against you lot. You have stolen the points in recent games at Anfield. Although, I do have a feeling that Rooney is about to shut his critics up and an even more horrible feeling that he will do it against us. Whenever he is quiet for a while, he explodes and he has been quiet for long time I feel.

Liverpool only have a handful of players good enough to be considered as 'Targets' to be signed by United. Torres and Gerrard and that's about it. If they are both injured you guys will walk the game, and I hope you do. Make sure Keane doesn't score PLEEEEASe

Hope you're right, trader, Rooney's been quiet for a long time, and hopefully, this is his season to shine. He looked brilliant last night against Croatia, and hopefully that rediscovered confidence will transfer into a match-winning performance at Anfield. He's had a lot of bad luck with injuries, illness and being played out of position - it's time things went right for him for a change and he showed eveyone what a good player he is.
