No Silvaware But Berbatov On His Way

Manchester United have put in a bid for David Silva of Valencia but the Spanish club rejected it, according to the players' agent.

The representative stated that Silva was happy in Spain and if he were to leave Valencia which he won't then he would consider only Real Madrid and Barcelona. Case closed I think though it would have been fantastic to sign him. Maybe next year when Ronaldo leaves for Madrid...

Now, the better news is that Dimitar Berbatov is apparently on his way. Press reports claim he told Spurs teammates he would join United by the end of the week and it's been said that the two clubs are very close to agreeing a fee which would be around Ł28m.

Spurs' initial demand, of course, was much higher while our first bid was much lower... now it looks like a good deal for all parties concerned. Hopefully he'll really be a United player by the end of the week though I'm highly doubtful about this one. The way our transfers usually go (last season's lightning raid for Nani and Anderson was the exception that proved the rule) I'll be happy if it's completed in two weeks' time. And if completed at all.

Not sure if Berbatov will move, would certainly be a great signing for Utd.

Really hope this Berbatov deal goes through. Slightly confused though: you recieve brilliant reports on him in the papers etc, yet Spurs fans appear happy to let him go????

I'll be just happy to see us get a striker. I don't really care whether it's Berbatov (which seems likely) but when Rooney's out, just Tevez and an unfit Saha doesn't look very promising.

This deal should have gone through by now, and we've still heard no news of substance. Apparantly, Spurs won't let him go for less than what we paid for Tevez.

This worries me because I don't think Berbatov is worth that much, especially as we don't know how he'll fit into United. I worry that we'll end up missing out on Berbatov due to his price, but we'll have left it too late to get anyone else... :(

What makes me laugh is that Tottenham have openly stated that they do not want to sell Dimitar Berbatov and that any United bit will be knocked back, which, true to their word, Tottenham have done so far. United can want him all they like, Spurs have said that they will settle for around the 30m mark and United are nowhere near the valuation and i'm no scientist but usually if you want to buy something from someone who doesn't want to sell it, you pay more than the value, not less! Just makes me laugh at how United think they're doing Spurs a "favour" by buying Berbatov from them! A club who have openly stated they have no desire to sell and United issue a "this is our final offer" plea!!! W@nk3rs!

And for the record, Berbatov is a much better player than Tevez! He holds the ball up much better and links play excellently, plus he scores far more goals than Tevez! How then does Tevez cost 32m and United think they can get a superior player for less? MUGS!

Everyone is saying that Spurs want 28m and we're offering 25m. At this time, that is, 3 days before the EPL start, and 2 weeks before the end of the transfer window, it seems stupid to hold out for 3 million. By the way, has tevez been permanently signed? I thought that SAF explained the "situation" to him, and that his transfer fee would come at another time, and that he had no problem with that

U4L, for your information Daniel Levy (the tw*tty chairman thats not rolling over for man utd) stated at the start of the transfer window that there will be lots of rumours linking us to players and our players to other teams and that he would not accept or dismiss any of them as it would mean he would spend all day doing this as we are constantly linked with players coming and going. So Levy is only doing as he stated

alex tevex hasnt been signed yet, it will probably be done after the transfer window closes. Im denying hes a better player exil, im saying hes a different player.

Berbatov is a better player in terms of scoring, but tetevez is the more creative player. I agree with rooneyisgod - they're both fantastic players - you can't compare them or say one is better than another. Anyhow, hopefully, we can soon have both :)

IF however, it is true that Spurs aren't going to sell, I wish Fergie wouldn't hold out for Berbatov, and go find someone else, because we really do need someone.

I agree... We are wasting too much time with berbatov. If fergie needs him then he should get him and not fight over 2-3mill difference. If spurs are not selling thouhg, that's another thing. He should set his sights elsewhere. Santa Cruz is cheap...Why cant we just use his release clause? dont all players have one on their contract?

Yeah, if Fergie really wants Berbatov, he should just stump up the rest of the money, and be shot of it. If he's really as good as Fergie believes, he'll soon prove his worth. And if he doesn't want Berba, he should look somewhere else. But whatever he does, we need a striker, and we need one sharpish.
