Step Up For Simmo

Danny Simpson has joined for Blackburn Rovers on loan, hopefully as the first step towards becoming a decent player for United.

It's undoubtedly a step up for the young right-back who found first-team opportunities extremely limited at Old Trafford. He's spent the last few months of last season at Ipswich but he can do better than the Championship.

The boy is a bright talent but he needs experience. He produced very encouraging displays for United (against Wigan and Newcastle last season, for example) but the only time he started against a competent opponent (Everton on December 23) he was badly out of his depth, skinned and nutmegged repeatedly by Pienaar.

I expect him to improve though one must note that not just Gary Neville but John O'Shea and Wes Brown were established players at his age... Even so, the example of Neil Warnock could be his motivation at Rovers: the left-back's opportunities were restricted at Liverpool but he earned himself a permanent move to Rovers and became a key player there. If Simpson won't make it at United then I sincerely wish him a similar career path.

I was hoping he would get some games this season but seeing as he is going on loan to a premier league side it can only be good for the lad :D our future RB!!! :D

i was a bit miffed by this.....but seeing raphael tonight. WOW! looks liek our strong tradition of top class full-backs will continue for some time more.

Looks a good prospect. Hopefully we'll cope without him this season, and he'll come back a better and more experienced player. One for the future, certainly. Incey will be good for him too.
