Mr. Capello, Keep Ignoring Carrick, Please
England play dire, unimaginative football and unable to keep possession of the ball the way the best international sides do it. So it's a no-brainer to call-up a silky passer who is a key player of the best side in Europe? No, apparently not.
Michael Carrick, despite playing a huge part in United's successes in the last two seasons, is by and large ignored by Capello who prefers the less talented Gareth Barry and of course the two famous ones, Lampard and Gerrard. Mind you, even Jermaine Jenas is ahead of him which is pure madness.
The story a few days ago was that Fergie challenged Carrick to win his place back in the England squad but personally, I'm not sure if that would benefit United. You see, an England player gets lambasted every month by so-called critics who loudly lament over the deficiencies of English players and are under huge pressure from media and fans alike.
The player's got to divide his attention between club and country and it's never good: remember how Beckham's United form dropped when he was appointed captain of England? A constant craving for a place in the international squad, that can do a world of good but actually achieving that target... I don't know.
But I understand if Carrick is frustrated. He's a key player of the European champions, managed by one of the best ever managers in the game. What else should he do to get into a mediocre international side?
