Huntelaar Is Not Good Enough

Huntelaar Is Not Good Enough

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is apparently a Manchester United target after refusing to agree to a new contract with Ajax. The Amsterdam club wished to install a minimum release clause of 25 million euros which was too high for Huntelaar.

Let's face it: no club in their right mind would pay that amount for the Dutch goalgetter. He's hardly the next Marco van Basten despite all the speculation about him. I just don't think it's a coincidence he hasn't been snapped up yet.

My problem with Huntelaar is simple and that's why I don't like most messageboards where people think he's the next Van Basten or Van Nistelrooy. He's not: he's quite slow, not very strong in the air, not too skilled and his overall contribution leaves a lot to be desired. He's not a skilful, mobile player at all.

His only real strength is his finishing which is deadly and which makes him easily the best marksman in the Dutch league. But it's the Dutch league, mind you, with a goal average over 3 goals per game. I seriously doubt if he could do any better than playing for a mid-table team in a major league.

I'd take him but not for over the odds.I think he'd score goals for us especially with the amount of chances we create. It's still him or Santa Cruz for me or even a fit Saha.

of course he's good enough. i've never heard so much rubbish in all my life (except for the times when people have suggested Norwich are a good football club)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u lot are underestimating him , didnt van nisterooy come from holland? he is amazing , quick , strong , good in the air , great finisher , he has it all
28/06/2008 19:44:00
beware Dutch strikers, Mateja Kezman scored for fun in Holland but couldn't hit a cows arse for us!

I wouldnt mind him.

merlins got a good point - wasnt kuyt a goal-getting master in holland? van nistelrooy was something of a rarety i feel, and out of the current generation of dutch stars it is players such as robben and van persie who i rate more, not huntelaar. having said that, i wouldnt mind getting him - but ONLY if he was contempt with the occasional bench role, i still think tevez and rooney whuld be our first choice strike force.

personally i think it's a little premature to make such a statement. whilst the eredivisie isn't the most prolific league, and it's true players such as kuyt, kezman, alves etc have found it difficult to impress in the premiership. this guy huntelaar as scored over 30 goals in each of the past 3 seasons for a reason. if he's got the strikers instinct then theres no better team at creating chances. i think we should take the chance before someone else does and we aren't left regretting it. van nistelrooy isn't particularly fast or skilful but he's one hell of a goal machine and was worth every penny he cost us.

Bring in Santa Cruz! 24 goals in his first season??!?!? next best thing after Torres! No brainer!think of the options for next year Cruz - Rooney Saha - Rooney Cruz - Tevez Saha - Rooney - Tevez it goes on and on! Maybe we'll throw in a bit of Manucho in there as well! Just for the flavour:D

Isn't a natural finisher exactly what United need? You can have all the hard working technical players in the world but one thing you don't have is a goal scorer especially if Ronaldo has an off season (or buggers off). IMO he gives you a few more options [also would mean you keep you grubby hands off Berbagod :-)]

You will eat your words for that one mate. Firstly, I agree Dutchmen can be a wee bit of a gamble with kezman and alves. But Alves could prove people wrong next year and Kuyt isn't used as a striker at Liverpool like he was back in Holland. I've watched Huntelaar many a times and rate him well over Tevez. I've never been impressed with Tevez. That said, you know who had more goals than Wayne Rooney last year? John Carew that's who! Rooney is a serious under performer and I don't think he's nearly as great as he's made out to be. Though I still think he is a good player.
