Huntelaar Is Not Good Enough

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is apparently a Manchester United target after refusing to agree to a new contract with Ajax. The Amsterdam club wished to install a minimum release clause of 25 million euros which was too high for Huntelaar.

Let's face it: no club in their right mind would pay that amount for the Dutch goalgetter. He's hardly the next Marco van Basten despite all the speculation about him. I just don't think it's a coincidence he hasn't been snapped up yet.

My problem with Huntelaar is simple and that's why I don't like most messageboards where people think he's the next Van Basten or Van Nistelrooy. He's not: he's quite slow, not very strong in the air, not too skilled and his overall contribution leaves a lot to be desired. He's not a skilful, mobile player at all.

His only real strength is his finishing which is deadly and which makes him easily the best marksman in the Dutch league. But it's the Dutch league, mind you, with a goal average over 3 goals per game. I seriously doubt if he could do any better than playing for a mid-table team in a major league.

I'd take him but not for over the odds.I think he'd score goals for us especially with the amount of chances we create. It's still him or Santa Cruz for me or even a fit Saha.
java
of course he's good enough. i've never heard so much rubbish in all my life (except for the times when people have suggested Norwich are a good football club)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just-an-Ipswich-fan
u lot are underestimating him , didnt van nisterooy come from holland? he is amazing , quick , strong , good in the air , great finisher , he has it all
No1Yido
beware Dutch strikers, Mateja Kezman scored for fun in Holland but couldn't hit a cows arse for us!
merlin
I wouldnt mind him.
rooneyisgod
merlins got a good point - wasnt kuyt a goal-getting master in holland? van nistelrooy was something of a rarety i feel, and out of the current generation of dutch stars it is players such as robben and van persie who i rate more, not huntelaar. having said that, i wouldnt mind getting him - but ONLY if he was contempt with the occasional bench role, i still think tevez and rooney whuld be our first choice strike force.
united4life
personally i think it's a little premature to make such a statement. whilst the eredivisie isn't the most prolific league, and it's true players such as kuyt, kezman, alves etc have found it difficult to impress in the premiership. this guy huntelaar as scored over 30 goals in each of the past 3 seasons for a reason. if he's got the strikers instinct then theres no better team at creating chances. i think we should take the chance before someone else does and we aren't left regretting it. van nistelrooy isn't particularly fast or skilful but he's one hell of a goal machine and was worth every penny he cost us.

Bring in Santa Cruz! 24 goals in his first season??!?!? next best thing after Torres! No brainer!think of the options for next year Cruz - Rooney Saha - Rooney Cruz - Tevez Saha - Rooney - Tevez it goes on and on! Maybe we'll throw in a bit of Manucho in there as well! Just for the flavour:D

Isn't a natural finisher exactly what United need? You can have all the hard working technical players in the world but one thing you don't have is a goal scorer especially if Ronaldo has an off season (or buggers off). IMO he gives you a few more options [also would mean you keep you grubby hands off Berbagod :-)]
Phartman87
You will eat your words for that one mate. Firstly, I agree Dutchmen can be a wee bit of a gamble with kezman and alves. But Alves could prove people wrong next year and Kuyt isn't used as a striker at Liverpool like he was back in Holland. I've watched Huntelaar many a times and rate him well over Tevez. I've never been impressed with Tevez. That said, you know who had more goals than Wayne Rooney last year? John Carew that's who! Rooney is a serious under performer and I don't think he's nearly as great as he's made out to be. Though I still think he is a good player.
los_angeles_villan
Totally contradictory statement there LA_Villian. This whole "overated Rooney" was created by tabloid tossers who dont know a thing about football, and it has been adopted by all opposing fans. In fact, year on year Rooney's goal tally has risen each tme and is on an upwards increase. To be honest, it is only the extreaordinary rise of Ronaldo that has made people to question Rooney, ask any United fan who watch the team week in week out who our most important player is and i bet a fair majority will choose Rooney. As for your Tevez comment, well.....i dont even really think I need to answer to that. Fact is, Rooney and Tevez do so much for the team asde from scoring goals, but still manage to get 20 gaols a season. Do peopel have such poor memeories? Do you remember the way we played when RVN was in or team?.....it didnt even compare to the stufff we play today. We need slick, interchangabel players...not a static gaoal "poacher" who will dictate the way we play. Thats why I hope we go for berbatov!
united4life
Or give Dong a chance! Who's with me? Join Dong's army now!
Tosswink
United4life your right about Rooney being the most important player at old trafford, in the fans eyes at least. The media will always *****e on about Ronaldo, good or bad, because he sells papers. But when it comes to workrate and sheer effort you cannot fault Rooney or Tevez who in my opinion both set the stage for Ronaldo last season. I do rate Huntelaar more than Berbatov to be honest, I feel that Berbatov although hugely talented does like to stick his head in the sand when playing aggressive opponents and besides he wouldn't get a game ahead of Rooney or Tevez unless Fergie goes with that Rooney on the left wing crap. Huntelaar on the other hand may be prepared to be 3rd choice striker. Put it this way if we were playing say someone like Villa and were losing 1 nil with 5 minutes to go in ***** weather and the crowd on our backs I'd rather stick Huntelaar up front than Berbatov, for all of Berbatovs height how many times does he even challenge for the ball in the air or actually get stuck in. We need a good natural finisher and poacher around the 6 yard box. Why are we crapping on about how easy the dutch league is just look outside the top 8 in the prem and its not exactly world class I doubt Huntelaar would be *****ting himself at the thoughts of Wigan or Newcastle. If I had a choice it would be Huntelaar or Santa Cruz not Berbatov. Berbatov is just as ******** static as a set of traffic lights hes prepared to let the ball come to him but not to get it himself now wouldn't that dictate how we play if our striker wont put his foot in and fight for the ball, how exactly is he interchangeable can you see Berbatov going out wide left and crossing for someone in the box and what good would it be if all our forward thinking players switch around you need to know whos in the box at any giving time your hardly gonna knock in high crosses if Rooney or Tevez are in there alone you need 1 static striker at least on the bench in case things don't work out Dong deserves his chance like anyone else at the club.
Kanchelskis
Huntelaar is a CLASS player and will score LOADS of goals in a team like ours! We have enough creativity in the ranks to turn him to the the next Ruud. I say we snap him up!
ForeverUnited
naa this guy is not gd enough
kendog
he scored 90 goals in under 3 years
matth01
