Evra Signs New Deal - What A Relief

Evra Signs New Deal - What A Relief

Though it was reported earlier that Patrice Evra had extended his contract it wasn't official until now.

The Frenchman, one of the best, most consistent United players of the last two seasons, extended his existing contract which were due to expire next year until 2012, ending speculation about a move to Milan or Juventus.

'It's a pleasure and an honour to be part of this fantastic side and to be coached by Sir Alex Ferguson and his staff,' he said.

'United is more than a club - it`s a family I am proud to be a part of and that's why it's always been a first choice for me.

"I declared when I arrived that I was coming here not just to play but to win, and United is the ideal place to realise such a dream.'

'It's a privilege to play in front of our fantastic fans and I'm sure the success we've earned in the last two seasons confirms the history of this club and will be the start of something even more special."

I stated earlier, a few months ago, that Evra's departure would be a disaster for the team; though he's only a left-back, there are few (I can name none) who would be capable of replacing him at United. So I'm relieved that this ended as I was afraid the club might be reluctant to meet Evra's demands - though knowing his modest nature those could not be astronomical.

He often stated that he was waiting for the club after having made his intentions to stay here absolutely clear. There were noises about a possible Bosman move to Milan next season but finally, we can put all these to bed now. Sir Alex, who hasn't enjoyed a very good summer so far, was understandably delighted.

"Patrice has been a key part of the Club`s success in the last two seasons. He's developed into one of the best full-backs in world football and his infectious personality has helped build the incredible team spirit that exists at Old Trafford."

I can only say that a long time has passes since Evra was taken off 45 minutes into his debut at the Massive Club...

£5.5 million from Monaco - now he is the best left-back in the world. Great player and a great proffesional, pity i can not say the same for all our players.
