'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Holy Trinity Is Now Truly Immortal

Sir Matt Busby is not lonely anymore: three of his players joined him in front of Old Trafford.

I am of course talking about the unveiling of the Holy Trinity Statue in front of Old Trafford. The memorial is the work of Philip Jackson and stands opposite of Sir Matt Busby's who is now looking down on them kindly.

Dennis Law and Bobby Charlton, fortunately, are still alive and therefore are able to witness the memorial which, in my honest opinion, is a great piece of art. Georgie Best hasn't lived to see it but he will be delighted that his words have come true: we won't remember about the rubbish, just the football when we look upon this statue.

It is really fitting that on the 40th anniversary of the first European Cup we won the third: the legacy of Busby and the Holy Trinity was honoured by the current crop who did not ruin this year of significance.

Those three are some of the best players United have ever had. They rightly take their place alongside Sir Matt. I really felt for Sir Bobby this season - it must have been so hard to concentrate on United now when all you can think of is fifty years ago, and what might have been. It's so special that we managed to win the Champions League fifty years after Munich. Welldone United - you did it for the Babes.
