Rio Signs On!

Rio Ferdinand has signed a new contract that will keep him at United until 2013.

Ferdinand who's enjoying a marvellous season always maintained that his utmost desire is to have the new contract signed as soon as possible. A five-year-deal was on the cards for a long time and not long ago Rio's agent revealed that the terms had been agreed.

Now the signing of the papers have taken place, too and it looks like Rio meant it when he said he wanted to finish his career at Old Trafford.

"Manchester United is a fantastic club and I am delighted I have signed a new contract,' Rio told the official website (www.manutd.com).

'It is a great honour to be part of this trophy winning team and to share in the success, which I am sure, will continue for many seasons to come.

'I would like to thank the Manager, the coaching staff, the players and the fans for the tremendous support they have given me since I joined the club."

Sir Alex was also buoyant after securing the services of half of his best ever defensive partnership.

"I am delighted Rio has signed a new contract. Rio`s contribution this season has been a major factor in our outstanding defensive performance.'

'He has matured into his role at the club and has shown, when needed, what a great captain and leader he can be."

Great news near the end of a great season!
