Hargreaves: United Would Deserve The Title

Owen Hargreaves feels a win at Wigan will give us nothing more than what we deserved: a Premier League trophy.

Hargreaves is pointing at one of the most obvious differences between the two teams: that United are playing exciting, attacking football whereas Chelsea were just grinding out results all season. Our goal difference is a testimony to it and Hargreaves says it makes United worthy champions.

'It would be nice if teams like United who play attacking football and score lots of goals got their reward,' he said.

'It is very rare at this level to see a team at the top of the table with such a massive goal difference.

'We are in control of our own destiny, which is what you want, and we need only one win to retain our title."


If we win by two clear goals at the JJB (not inconceivable, is it?) we'll break the record for best goal difference in the history of the Premier League - it is, disturbingly, held not by ourselves or Arsenal but Mourinho's 2004/05 Chelsea which one must acknowledge played quite good football: not spectacular but irresistible at its best.

Hargreaves himself, of course, is not the kind of swashbuckling attacking player so he's not patting himself on the back, he's trying to get some credit for his teammates. He's right to talk about rewards for attacking football but it's in our hands to claim these rewards.

Having said that, I wouldn't be bothered if it took a stellar defensive performance and an ugly Hargreaves goal to get us back-to-back titles!

you know? if pompey won it, they would deserve to. if chelsea won it, they would deserve too. its the way the league works you see...every team plays every other team twice, and whichever one comes away on top at the end of the season has prooved that it can consistently play winning football...if you loose/draw agaisnt wigan, then chelsea fully deserve to win the title, after coming back from 11 points behind you!
