'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Admirable Commitment Of Eto'o

Do you think that two days before a make-or-break Champions League semi-final tie is the perfect time to cause unrest by publicly threatening to leave your club? No? I don't think so either. But Samuel Eto'o has another opinion.

The Barcelona hitman never shirked away from controversy: his famous celebrations in 2005 after Barca won the league will never be forgotten. However, when his team is in a right sort of mess, it's astonishing to see him making threats against his club.

'If we continue like this next year then I will have to leave and go somewhere else. I have to win trophies,' he declared.

Then we can rule out Arsenal, I think. But really Samuel, do you think it's the best way to forge some togetherness in a squad that's reported to be full of cliques?

He added some obvious things, like that Messi and Iniesta (who picked up a knock on Saturday) must be fit because they are the most important players - but I think the damage has been done.

The thing that concerns me though is that Eto'o can do an awful lot to ensure Barcelona do win something. Hopefully he'll continue to do the talking in the press and not on the pitch.
