Boro v United - Player Ratings!

Edwin van der Sar: No chance with the goals as the defence, uncharacteristically, left him totally exposed. Made some really good saves. 8

Wes Brown: Tried to do his job and help out O'Shea - the results were close to disastrous. His poorest game of the season. 4

John O'Shea: Was he abducted by aliens after leaving Stadio Olimpico where he performed admirably? Simply had no answer to Alves. 4

Rio Ferdinand: Far from his majestic best but the terrible performance of his colleagues made his job nigh impossible. 6

Patrice Evra: He was solid. Gary O'Neil could not get past him and he offered plenty in attack down the left. 7

Paul Scholes: A bit of a muted display. His passing was quite good but should have asserted himself more, the way he did against Liverpool and Roma. His shooting has become ineffective. 6

Michael Carrick: Kept up his good form and claimed an assist. Sometimes hopelessly outnumbered though. 7

Ryan Giggs: All due respect to the captain, a magnificent servant to Manchester United, a legend who will always be fondly remembered. But this performance was terrible. He was nowhere to be seen, outmuscled, out-thought, sloppy, simply poor. 4

Cristiano Ronaldo: Gave us the lead with another poacher's finish then should have added a second with a wonderful solo. Presented great threat on the left but our unbalanced formation meant he was outnumbered too often. 7

Wayne Rooney: Another tremendous performance. Denied a goal by an incompetent linesman, he got one due to a helpful deflection. He was a threat throughout and if Tevez would have not matched, just come close to his display, we would have won. 8

Carlos Tevez: And we've arrived to the Argentinian who simply vanished. Too often he was back in midfield, too often his touch let him down, too often his passing was sloppy and he did not have a single chance to score... He was much better when he played regularly. 5

Ji-sung Park: Brilliant thirty minutes. He gave us a threat on the rigth and conjured up the equaliser. Showed again that he's a very useful player to have. 8

Owen Hargreaves: Came on for O'Shea and gave us pace and energy on the right but struggled with Downing in the first few minutes. 7

Gerard Pique: Fergie praised him, saying he was marvellous but actually by the time he came on Boro were content to sit back and try to contain us. He did his job faultlessly, that's true, it's just that the job itself wasn't so difficult. 6

I gussed so myself, U4L! :)

i think SAF should put his faith in pique, regardless of the extent of rios injury. i would much rather play a natural cb, who contrary to popular belief is an experienced defender, after his loan spell at real zaragoza, where he would have come p against the likes of ronaldoinho, messi, raul and van nistelrooy week in week out. i remember watching a match against villareall and he completely bossed the rejuvenated diego forlan. peresonally id go for him above wes and o;'shea at cb, hes a top quality defender with as genuine goal threat. (dyanmo kiev and roma)

I agree U4L although Wes is predominantly a CB(described be the Boss years ago as one of the most natural he'd seen!).Vidic will be back for Blackburn,I'm not sure about Rio yet but I think we'll cope. The defence was a shambles yesterday,O Pie was awful so play Wes RB where he's been briliant all season and give Pique a start although his pave is a sussceptable!!!

Did you under-perform on Sunday? Or did we just play much better than usual?
