The Fergie Rant

The Fergie Rant

Sir Alex, unsurprisingly, was furious after Martin Atkinson's mistakes contrived to United's FA Cup exit.

So our manager faces an FA charge yet again. Well, it's nothing new. He will probably get a touchline ban, too, something that Wenger who called a linesman a liar last season, never gets.

But never mind. Let's see what he was raving about, was he right?

'It's absolutely ridiculous,' he told MUTV, referring to Atkinson's decision not to award a penalty for a clear foul by Distin.

'I cannot explain it. Managers get sacked because of things like that and he's going to referee a game next week.'

'He's not doing his job properly and he needs to be assessed. I'm assessed as a manager, players are assessed, referees should be assessed properly by the right people.

'That performance today should not be accepted by our game.'

I know a lot of people will say that 'ol' rednose is whining again'. But please put aside who said it (and the manner he used) and consider the implications.

How many fans were crying out recently for the introduction of an assessing system for referee's? How many of us urged the FA to make the refs accountable rather than leaving him untouchables what they are now.

Those who hate Fergie will not admit if he's right especially as most of his thoughts were aired only because of frustration - but that does not mean he doesn't have a point.

Oh, and for the record, he added that Pompey's penalty was a correct decision. So it's a bit unfair to say he only wanted to have a go at Atkinson.

Ironic thing was, the potentially worst tackle of the day came from Rooney, no mention of that was there? Ferg had it bad yesterday, Ronaldo was hardly kicked off the park, yet your assitant manager was comparing Diarras shoulder charge to Taylor on Eduardo! Things in perspective!

too all the "fans" crying out for an assesing system for referees: there is one. in fact, every game is assesed. the problem is though, is that referees are human, and the ones refereeing the premiership are the pik of the bunch - but more to the point, there is a real shortage in referees. and that shortage stems from the scathing critism they recive day in day out and not being perfect - which in turn stems from men like sir alex that dont understnad the laws of football, and think that referees should only ever give penalties to there side. you want better refereeing? well be nicer to them, and maybe a few more will sin up, but untill then, stick with what youve got

they're not assessed. they can't be punished, they can't be held responsible, do not have to face press conferences and can't be criticised.

I don't know why Pompey fans feel that they have to prove their moral superiority. Are you not content with going through? As for calling Rooney's foul worthy of a red... you're kidding, right?

Fergie Said ........'He's not doing his job properly and he needs to be assessed. I'm assessed as a manager, players are assessed, referees should be assessed properly by the right people. 'That performance today should not be accepted by our game.' I agree Rooney should have seen red for a a studs up lunge at Kranjcar... Ref was not poor (well we've seen a lot worse) Sorry Six Alex your out of the cup, your treble dream has gone .. look at your players first and foremost and as for baliming referees well.. it was only 18 months ago that you accused teams battling relegation to accept it as it part of the game ... Bout time you heeded your own words ...
