United v Pompey - Player Ratings!

United v Pompey - Player Ratings!

Edwin van der Sar: A good save from a Kranjcar shot but otherwise nothing to do in a one-sided first half. 6

Wes Brown: Had a good, quiet game, probably should have gone forward more. 6

Rio Ferdinand: One of the players who did not have goalscoring opportunities. Did solidly, had no chance of getting back in time to prevent the goal. Almost saved the penalty. 6

Nemanja Vidic: He could have scored with headers, shame he didn't put them away. 6

Patrice Evra: One of our best players. However, he made one really bad decision: when being put clean through by one the many brilliant Rooney-passes, he pulled the ball back, behind Tevez instead of shooting. 7

Cristiano Ronaldo: A frustrating afternoon for the Portuguese. Lassana Diarra's first minute foul on him was worth a free-kick but Distin's similar though even more obvious foul wasn't a penalty for Atkinson. Missed good opportunities to score. 7

Owen Hargreaves: Did his job well but it made sense to bring him off as his defensive qualities were unnecessary. 7

Paul Scholes: Disappointing. He seems to suffer from lack of confidence. Missed a good chance and always chose the safest option, his passing was nowhere near what he is capable of. 5

Luis Nani: Relentless crossing but his teammates found various options of how to miss the resultant chances... 7

Carlos Tevez: The decision to bring him off was a bit surprising especially with Scholes' poor performance. He wasted great chances but was a great contributor to our attacking play. Fergie probably did not want to risk him as he is one of our two remaining attackers.

Wayne Rooney: Frustrated in the first half and messed up a glorious opportunity. In the second, he was brilliant: two of his passes especially stand out, they sent Evra and Carrick clear but none of them managed to convert. 7

Michael Carrick: He gave us new impetus in attack, passed the ball brilliantly but missed a great chance (I'm tired of typing it at every single of our players) 7

Anderson: Did well but along with Rooney failed to close down Baros before the goal. 6

sorry fellas...it ws a perfect penalty in every way. well, obviosly, he could have blastesd it into the top corner, but players that do that have a tendancy to miss.
