Edwin van der Sar: Rarely troubled. Faultless at the goal (it was a sweetly struck shot) and saved well from a Juninho-freekick. 6
Wes Brown: He is eager to make it clear that he deserves a new, improved contract. Impressive defensive display. 7
Rio Ferdinand: Kept Benzema at bay for most of the match but should have done better to close him down at the goal. 7
Nemanja Vidic: He was also close when the young Frenchman struck but otherwise faultless. Would love to see a firm Vidic header flying into the top corner as these goals have been lacking lately. 7
Patrice Evra: Uncomfortable early on he managed to subdue Sydney Govou. Wasn't as dazzling as against Arsenal but solid defending from the Frenchman. 7
Owen Hargreaves: Faultless performance, his running, energy and tackling was vital in keeping the home side at bay. 7
Paul Scholes: Unspectacular, sometimes off the pace. Far from his best, perhaps due to the injury, perhaps only to age. 5
Anderson: He did not play well but it was interesting to see that Lyon paid him extra attention so Perrin must have been aware of his qualities. Some good passes and tackles but none of the brilliance displayed on Saturday. 6
Ryan Giggs: He did well. Could have ended with two assists and though the teams looks more dangerous without him, his individual contribution cannot be faulted. 7
Wayne Rooney: Troubled the Lyon defence and linked well with Tevez once the Argentinian was brought on - but you can't miss chances like that in Europe. 6
Cristiano Ronaldo: Coupét tipped two of his free-kicks over the bar, the latter resulting in the corner that led to the equaliser, a dangerous header that flew wide and good passing - a good team effort by the Portuguese. 7
Luis Nani: Replaced Giggs. Delivered a good cross that Lyon's defence could not deal with. Brought urgency, freshness and trickery into our football. 7
Carlos Tevez: Replaced Scholes. In typically predatory fashion, he saved the day for United. Had another chance but his weak shot was no match for Coupet. 7
Michael Carrick: Replaced Hargreaves. Good passing, helped United to keep up the pressure on the French champions. His blocked shot found Nani before the equaliser. 6
